The Central North Island ski slopes of Turoa and Whakakapapa are just 40 kilometres from Turangi and the nearby Tongariro National Park offers the chance to walk the Tongariro Crossing and view the pristine environment of a heritage park of international reputation. Mountain biking the many trails around the Lodge is especially popular.

The Great Lake Taupo and its surrounding area is one of the adventure centres of the North Island, offering everything from tandem sky diving, to bungy jumping, to four wheel driving and much more. All are within a short drive of Waimarama Lodge.
